  • Smallville Season 7 DVD Review

    • From: vantheman77
    • Description:

The 7th season DVD is a very nice package that has both Clark and Kara on the cover. However, it would have been nice if Lex was also on the cover since it was his last season.

The season is shown widescreen and the picture is clear and crisp. The sound has the 5.1 surround sound just like the other DVD sets.

This set has the most amount of deleted scenes than any other season set ever. I just wished that they put these deleted scenes so that the episodes feel complete and with more weight to them. Among them are how Clark got frozen, Lana and Chloe's reunion, how Lex got his flight cleared up, etc.

While the 6th season set didn't have any audio commentary, they brought it back in this set on episodes Persona and Siren. I just wish there were more audio commentaries on key episodes like Bizarro, Descent, and Apocalypse.

The special features include the Supergirl featurette, the Jimmy Olsen actors sitting in a room discussing the role of Jimmy Olsen, the Kara Chronicles, and the Smallville: Visions comic that took place during the episode Hero.

This was a much better season set with episodes to choose and watch from. A high recommender.

  • The Season 7 (May 15, 2008) Fi

    • From: KevvEL
    • Description:

Well, it looks like this season has come to a close. Overall I enjoyed it, and for the most part i liked the finale. I am going to wonder what happens next, with Kara in the phantom zone as well as Lex and Clark being stranded in (what's left of) the fortress. I still don't like the idea that Lex had a magic sphere that could control Clark, but hopefully there is a way to get past that in the season premiere.

The main thing i thought about after this finale is that Smallville is really at a crossroads for the characters. I would like to see Clark begin life in Metropolis and work closer with Green Arrow, but it seems like the show is a little stuck in how to get Clark to transition to the next stage in his life. In fact, i thought a lot of this season involved Clark being stuck in a transition (one foot in Metropolis and one foot in Smallville). I think the show is doing a great job of reinterpreting the Superman story but I think it's time for Clark to join up with Jimmy, Chloe, and Lois to complete that full transition to Metropolis and start having Clark take on the Superman persona.

That being said, I wanted to talk about some of the parts of the episode i really liked. The first thing that really surprised me was that Jimmy proposed to Chloe! Then, the domestic security guys stormed in (although it was kinda funny that she told Jimmy to get Clark, but I think Jimmy will figure it all out eventually) and we will have to see what happens.

I liked seeing Lois comfort Clark (and the idea of Clark working at the paper) and I think it is time for Clark to move on from Lana, she seems like such a different character this season.

Also, it was pretty intense to see Lex and Clark and the fortress, and I wonder if the purple sphere is going to take Clark's powers away (in homage to how the fortress works in Superman II) or how they are going to survive the collapse.

Lastly, i wonder if Brainiac is really gone for good, especially since he feeds on power and could have made "back up" copies of himself. Also, speaking of space-type villains I wonder if we are going to see Darkseid anytime soon. Hmm, or it would be cool to get a visit from the Legion of Superheroes now that Smallville has introduced space/time travel.

Anyhow, that is all for now; it is time to find some food (and get back to studying haha)!!

  • Most Recent (5/1/08) Episode

I enjoyed blogging about last week's episode so I thought I'd share my thoughts on this week's episode too. Plus, it gives me a chance to avoid my grad student responsibilities haha.

What I liked about the episode was the attention to some of the Superman iconography that's sometimes missing from Smallville. For instance, Jimmy had his trademark bowtie and Clark had a pair of glasses for a clever disguise. As a long-time fan of the comics and movies (and the Superman mythology/symbolism), I thought that was neat; it shows that Superman can be interpreted in a lot of different ways. Also, since I have not been following the show from the beginning (I've been watching the dvds) I think its neat that the show has terence stamp play jor-el (the polar opposite of zod in the films!!) and that the music in season 2 had elements of the john williams Superman theme.

Also, I thought it was interesting in this parallel universe that Kara stood by Lex nearly to the end, but Lex still used Kara for his own gain. This is what could have happened to Clark had their friendship continued or if Clark wasn't lucky enough to have the parents he had.

The Barn scene at the end of the episode also stood out to me in that while Lex and Clark don't really speak to each other (and Lex destroyed his good side!), they still find it acceptable to wander in to confront each other. (I did kinda think, "when will they stop breaking into each other's place?!?! or change the locks??")

Plus, building on the Superman mythology, Clark and Lois got a beer at the end of the episode, and when I thought about it, I like best Chloe, but I'll take Lois over Lana.

Anyhow, Tom Welling did a great job with the directing (i think i saw his name on the credits??); the scene at the end where Kara falls over was pretty suspenseful (I'm wondering what's going to happen....is she a host for brainiac as he was grinning like crazy (plus, we didnt see her kill him/it!!!))

I guess now I'm back to watching my dvds, and who knows, maybe i'll study tonight?

Ok. Clark needs to stop about wining about Lana's condition and start taking some action. he spent why too much time focused on Lana when his own existance and the fate of the world was at stake. I don't if it's just me but i would have willed myself to fly the moment kara took off with the brainiac. finding kara and finding those keys were the two must important things clark should have done which he failed to do

  • Smallville...continued?

    • From: parisC1
    • Description:

I have seen Smallville's seasons, over and over again. But I am confused with the Veritas episode( season 7 episode 15 ). Is Lana dead, or is she just in a " Brainiac-made " mode?

I am convinced that she will regain concious, but when she does Clark will have her sent away to protect her. And she must not dead, because if I recall Clark correctly, after Lois he goes back to Lana(in the films at least). I do not recall how it goes in the comic.

The big question, is Clark going in love Lois or is she going to be the person that will help him achive his goals? Is Chloe and Lionel going to remain into orbit around Clark's life and big secret, or are they going to die protecting him?

What will happen when Kara returns, and how Brainiac will have changed her? Will she be Kara, as we know her or she will have changed and be beside Brainiac when the battle begins? Beacause, there is going to be a war between Clark, his allies and all of his enemies, including Lex and Brainiac. Will Kara be an ally or an enemy?
